Varsity Head Coach
Coach
Penney
enters her fourteenth season as the girls’ varsity head coach at Reading Memorial
High School. Last season, her team captured its third consecutive Middlesex League Title.
In 2009 and 2008 the Rockets made back-to-back appearances in the MIAA Division II North
Final. Many of her former players have
continued their playing careers at the collegiate level (Div. I, II and III),
and her teams are consistently known for displaying good sportsmanship. Coach
Penney holds a B.A. in psychology from Tufts University and a M.Ed. in guidance
counseling from Salem State College. She was a four-year member and senior
captain of the women’s basketball team while at Tufts. In 2005, she founded
One-on-One College
Consulting, a company that specializes in helping student-athletes with the
college admissions process. She directs various basketball camps throughout the
year. In 2012,
Reading Girls Basketball Summer Camp will celebrate its 23rd year. She
resides in Wakefield with her husband, Matt, and their two sons, Bryan and Jack.
Jim
DeBenedictis:
Varsity Asst. Coach
Coach
D
enters his fourteenth year as a member of the RMHS girls’ basketball coaching
staff. For six seasons, he served as the girls’ junior varsity coach where
his teams finished in the top three of the league each season. Currently,
he serves as girls’ varsity assistant coach. Prior to RMHS, Coach D was the
freshman boys’ basketball coach at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody.
He has also coached numerous travel teams in the city of Lynn. He holds a
B.A. from Merrimack College and a M.Ed. from UMass Lowell. He is the
Chair of the History
Department at RMHS and resides in Chelmsford with his wife, Janice, and
their three sons, Joey, Tony and Domenic.
Kerry
Sullivan:
Junior Varsity Coach
Coach
Sullivan
enters her sixth season as the girls’ junior varsity coach at RMHS. Prior to
Reading, Coach Sullivan served as the girls’ junior varsity basketball coach at
her alma-mater, Wakefield High School. A member of the 1997 Wakefield High team
that won the Division II State Championship, she played Division II college
basketball at St. Anselm College where she majored in sociology. She holds a
M.A. in Elementary Education from Cambridge College and currently works as a
sixth-grade teacher in Wakefield. She resides in Saugus.
Kara Deyermenjian:
Freshmen Coach
Coach Deyermenjian enters her
second season as the girls' freshmen coach. She is a sports editor for a local
online news source, Reading.patch.com She
has lived in Reading all her life minus her time spent away at school. Kara
attended UMass Amherst and played women's club soccer for four years. She also played
soccer and basketball for Reading Memorial High School. She coaches at
the Reading Girls' Basketball Summer Camp.
