Reading Girls Basketball Camps/Clinics are directed by Reading Memorial High School Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Kim Penney. These camps/clinics are geared towards girls entering Kindergarten through 9th-grade and are open to residents and non-residents of the Town of Reading. 21st Annual Reading Girls Basketball Summer Camp 2010 marks the 21st Annual Reading Girls Basketball Camp! Traditionally held the week after 4th of July, it is an annual day-camp (9:15-1:00 each day) for girls entering 4th - 9th Grade. Established in 1989 by Suffolk University Women's Coach, Ed Leyden, Reading Girls Basketball Summer Camp is considered by many as one of the finest basketball teaching camps on the North Shore with emphasis placed on instilling the fundamentals of the game through drills, mini-lectures, video analysis and team play. The staff is comprised of experienced college and high school coaches and players who love teaching the game. Participants are grouped according to age and ability with advanced instruction provided for advanced players. Participants receive t-shirt. Reading Junior Girls Basketball Summer Camp This day camp is for girls entering Kindergarten - 3rd Grade. It is two hours each day offered at two different times - a morning session from 9:15-11:15 and a recently added afternoon session from 11:30-1:30. Emphasis is placed on the rules and FUNdamentals of the game. The staff is comprised of experienced high school coaches and players. Participants receive t-shirt. "Fall Ball" is a four-week clinic that runs for two hours each Saturday from the end of September to the end of October. It focuses on the fundamentals of basketball with the intent on preparing players for the upcoming basketball season, whether it be recreation, travel or high school play. Participants register for one of two sessions (by grade - either K-5 or 6-9). 5th Annual March Madness Mini-Camp: March Madness comes to Reading! This week-end camp on Saturday and Sunday in mid-late March is held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. RMHS Varsity Coach Kim Penney and her high school players "wrap-up and review" the basketball season with campers. This Mini-Camp includes on-court play, viewing of games from the NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Tournament, and group discussions on the importance of teamwork and how to be a leader.
